Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail Proxy Settings

So I just installed a new Operating System, Linux Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail on my laptop, ACER 4745G (intel i5, ATI HD5470, 4GB RAM, and for other specs you can google it)

I installed this OS and got sick with its proxy settings, since I was a newbie in Linux OS. After googling for a few minutes I found it, and I think it’s worthed to to share with all for netizens πŸ˜€

So, the scenario was I must installed rubygem to upload my assignments at and my computer was behind ai3 (my campus proxy).

First, open terminal :

export HTTP_PROXY=http://youruserid:yourpassword@

For my case :

export HTTP_PROXY=

After that you can access only HTTP via proxy. To apply this proxy for another protocols just change HTTP_PROXY to HTTPS_PROXY and http://” toΒ https://”. So does another protocols, FTP, ALL_PROXY, etc.

to make sure that you have apply these configurations to your protocols, just type this on your terminal

sudo gedit etc/profile

I hope this post can help others who encounter the same problems with me πŸ™‚
